Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Use more if the dough is sticky.
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast To help the dough rise.
  • 1 cup warm water Not too hot, for activating yeast.
  • 1 tablespoon salt To enhance flavor.

Add-ins

  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded Extra cheese on top for serving.
  • 1 cup fresh jalapeño, diced Adjust amount according to spice preference.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour, salt, and diced jalapeños to the yeast mixture. Stir until combined and knead for about 5 minutes.
  • Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 30 minutes.

Boiling & Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  • Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces, shape them into bagels, and let them rest for 5 minutes.
  • Boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side, then place on a baking tray.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of each bagel.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh or toasted later. Store leftovers in a zip-top freezer bag.
